Ceramic and tile installation

Flooring installation

The installation of wood flooring is very specific and meticulous. The installation of a hard wood floor is an enormous investment in your home. It will increase the value of your home too. Hard wood floors make for an allergy free home.

When installing a wood floor it is recommended that it be installed by a professional wood floor contractor. One mistake and the wood floor may need replacement in a few years, instead of a long life span of 100 years. The materials and tools that will needed are the laminate flooring, transition fitting, carpet pad, roofing felt, scissors, finish nailer, knee pads, tape measure, and a rubber mallet. 2 days before installation of the flooring, unpack it and lay it out flat on the floor so that it can become accustomed to the home's humidity. This will lessen buckling of the wood after the floor is installed.

Measure the room that the wood flooring is going to be installed in, add on 10%to 15% for errors that can occur when cutting the flooring or replacement later on.

Check out the sub floor, you will need to remove any flooring or carpeting that is in the installation room along with the base boards. Make sure that the floor is clean, and put down the vapor barrier with an overlap of 3 inches. Use tar paper or felt as the vapor barrier. The old flooring material will have to be hauled to the dump, and most garbage refuges charge a fee for the use of their services. Remember that if you install the flooring your knees, back, neck and shoulders are going to be painful.

If the flooring was installed by a certified wood floor installation company, they would clean up all the old flooring or carpeting in a short amount of time. The company would also dispose of the old materials. This would save you the refuge service fee.

Mark where the floor joists are and start the installation. Snap a chalk line ¾" from the wall, this allows for the floor to move and expand with the humidity. Align the edge of the board with the chalk line, and screw the boards down through the board and into the sub-floor and floor joist. Follow this process until the first row is completed. Make sure that you lay the first boards at a 90 degree angle to the floor joist that is beneath it. Screw the boards down until there is enough clearance for the nail gun. Use a screw for every 10" of flooring.Continue this process until you get to the last row. Be sure to make sure that the ends match up perfectly. This will make the floor smooth and the use of less filler.

The last row will be narrower, and the board will need to be trimmed to fit. Measure the area and trim the board to fit. Fill any of the holes with wood putty. Fill the hole and wipe off the excess.

The installation of a wood floor will take 2 to 3 days for an individual. If the resident had the flooring installed by a professional they would have the job done in a day. The professional would save the resident time that could be used to go on vacation or a weekend away with the family.
